Mike Glennon expected to command $13M-$15M per year in free agency

With the Chicago Bears certain to be in the quarterback market this offseason, one name floated as a possible replacement for Jay Cutler is Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup Mike Glennon.
At 27 years old and with a resume of production in the NFL, the 6-foot-6 right-hander could be this year’s Brock Osweiler of free-agent quarterbacks. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Glennon’s market value could climb as high as $15 million per year.
Glennon is an unrestricted free agent and could fetch $13 [million]-$15 million per year on his next deal — maybe more depending on the number of teams bidding.
In addition to Glennon, Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo is sure to be on the Bears’ wish list, but Chicago would have to pull off a trade to land the hometown product.
Both Garappolo and McCarron are under contract for 2017, so interested teams will have to broker a trade, which might not be easy with the Vikings and Eagles establishing a steep quarterback trade market this past offseason. The Patriots will want a lot, as will the Bengals. And just last week, one person close to the Patriots said he would be “stunned” if New England traded Garoppolo.
Don’t expect the Bears to be aggressive enough to land either passer, especially if Matt Barkley does enough over the final two games to build on the confidence already bubbling up at Halas Hall. It would be a shock if Chicago offered Glennon franchise-quarterback money; the team might as well keep Cutler. And if the asking price for Garoppolo is a first-round pick, the Bears will likely back out and focus on targeting a second-tier free agent or first-round rookie prospect.
And then there’s Barkley, who at age 26 has arguably been as impressive as Glennon was prior to Jameis Winston joining Tampa Bay. It’s very possible the Bears already have their quarterback in house and ready to take the torch from Cutler.
