The Detroit Tigers have announced that they signed Alex Avila to a one-year deal. Avila, of course, played for the Tigers between 2009 and 2015, having been with the organization since he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 draft. He spent last season with the Chicago White Sox.
Avila, who is the son of the Tigers’ general manager Al Avila, hit .213/.359/.372 in 52 games last season. While he was the Tigers’ starter for five seasons, he’ll be the backup to James McCann in Detroit.
